Te Rūnanga-ā-iwi o Ngāpuhi

Trustee’s Report

Oral report from Keith Wihongi

·      The board met recently with the Ngāpuhi Asset Holding Company.

·      Allan Wihongi coordinated the meeting.

·      Board members now have a better understanding of the Ngāpuhi Asset Holding Company.

·      Gwen asked about the Rūnanga communication. Is there a mailing list to send out information to all people who have registered with the Rūnanga?

·      Kara George will follow this up.

Education

·      Kelvin Davis is now with the Ministry of Education, working on the development of Iwi Education Plans in Te Taitokerau.

·      Kara George has a role in Te Rūnanga-ā-iwi o Ngāpuhi to develop the Education Plan.

·      General discussion about education issues.

·      Noted that Te Wānanga o Ngāpuhi had been talked about for 20 years.

·      The importance of whānau engagement.

·      Bullying is a problem.

·      Youth suicide proevention is a major issue.

General Business

·      Gwen asked about the recent kaumātua trips funded by the rūnanaga. What was the purpose of those trips, who was invited, and why were they funded by the rūnanga?

·      Riki Whiu is back in Northland as District Coordinator Community, Youth and Ethnic Services.
