6.         Marae Reports

6.2       Kohewhata – been very busy.  Hosted the lunch for the Treaty Tribunal, Tour bus trips have commenced for the season, a waiata wananga starts on  11th October for two weekends.  There are no weekends available until after Xmas for bookings.  The marae looking forward to hosting Kokiri Putahi, the  Indigenous Art Wananga to be held January 2014 in conjunction with the Ngapuhi  Festival.

 6.4      Mahuhu-ki-te-Rangi – continuing with wananga

 6.5      Ngai Tawake – are selling $4.00 mini hangi.  A hui is to be held 3/10/2013 at  Waipunga with Hancox Forestry at 5.00 pm concerning the milling of logs.  Have set  up a fundraiser of $2.00 per working person affiliated to the marae, has the potential to make $50,000 - $60,000.00 per year.  Are looking for a cheap auditor as auditing fees are too expensive.

 

7.         Other Reports

7.1       Puti Tipene A candidate standing for local body elections for Regional Council in Hokianga-Kaikohe ward.  Spoke briefly about the needs of the area.

 

8.         Mahi Raranga – Te Hemoata Henare Te Hemoata Henare gave her profile and involvement with Raranga.  She is involved  with the National Weavers Wananga to be held at Roma Marae, Ahipara in 2015.  They are looking to contacting past weavers in the area.

 

9.         General Business 

9.1       Concern was expressed that Broadway Health has not attended a meeting for  some time.  There have been some instances of misdiagnosing of patients which is causing some concern.  Don to follow up.

9.2      Steve Sangster – is involved with a group who are concerned about the new rules  coming out for recreational fishing.  Has also contact with a group of fishermen who have fish heads available for those who want them.

9.3      A Kaumatua/Kuia hui to be held 22nd October at 10.00 am at The Hub, Northland  College to discuss the future of the college.  Guidance is being sought by the  Principal on ways forward.

9.4      Discussion has been had by Willie Maihi with some Kaumatua regarding his proposal  to build a pa site in the Kaikohe area, the current site being discussed is Monument  Hill.  This then raised the subject of building a marae at the college.  The question  was asked, “What is going to happen to existing marae”.  For discussion at the next  meeting.
