Matters Arising from Minutes.

9.3           Date correction 14th October for Kaumatua/Kuia meeting at Northland College.

9.1           Invitation to be sent to the Police to attend a Takiwa meeting to discuss complaints and follow up procedure for damage reports to business owners after break ins. Invitation to be sent to Broadway Health to attend a Takiwa meeting to discuss complaints concerning care of patients.  Complaints to be documented and reported to Nick Hayward.

6.              Te Runanga-a-iwi Trustee’s Report

6.1           Annual General Meeting to be held 19 October 2013 at Te Whakamaharatanga Marae, Waimamaku.  Bus leaving Te Runanga 9.15 am.

6.2           NISS Annual General Meeting Friday 18th October 2013, 10.00 am

6.3           NAHC Annual General Meeting Friday 18th October 2013 10.00 am.

6.4           Applications not yet out for major marae development fund.

 

7               Marae Reports

7.4           Te Huruhi – struggling to function – restructuring committee.  Researching being carried out with regards to Te Kura O Awarua.  Project manager needs help.

 

7.6           Te Maata – renovation of men’s toilet completed.  New roof on whare tupuna.  Re-opening to be held 16th November 2013.

 

7.5           Te Iringa – have a good committee, had a good audit for the 3rd year in a row.  Still fundraising.  A working bee to be held Labour Weekend.  Ablution block to be renewed. Kitchen to be renewed at a later date.

 

8.              Other Reports

8.1           Local Government   - small turnout for Maori voting in elections, 33% for the Hokianga/Kaikohe area.  Putea is a barrier for Maori to stand as candidates.  More panui needed leading up to election.

 

8.2           Education – Need to keep up with technology as tablets are being used in primary schools now.  Very good Kaumatua/Kuia hui held, further meeting to be held 18th November at The Hub 10.00 am.  Thanks from Jim Luders to Hirini for help being given.  ERO have visited again  and are supporting the changes being made.  The commissioner is almost ready to hand back.  There has been a suggestion of a new name, new motto and new logo.  Policies need to be reviewed.  Very good reports have been received about the Art department with Chris Wilkie.  All staff need to be good role models.  

 

8.3           Maori Wardens - 2 factions are still operating in the area.  There needs to be morecommunication with parents and children.  Training is happening, patrolling is continuing, Police have supplied a vehicle filled with petrol.  The review is still going on.

 

8.4           Te Hau Ora O Kaikohe – talks have been held concerning the amalgamation of   Te Hau Ora O Kaikohe with Te Runanga as a subsidiary.

 

9               General Business

9.1           Intellectual Disability – Te Roopu Taurima o Manukau Trust wish to be part of the reporting group to the Takiwa.  To be included on the 2 monthly agenda

9.2           Paintings in Library Square – To be blessed at 11.00 am 16th October 2013.  These are a positive and exciting happening for Kaikohe.

 

9.3           Carvings for Cycle Trail – Some carvings have been completed by Shane Wharerau, with more to come.

 

9.4           Concern expressed at the lack of numbers attending the Takiwa meetings.  A suggestion made that a Takiwa Get Together be held 26th November 2013 at The Hub, Northland  College.  A fun afternoon starting at 5.00 pm with activities for the children and eats.  All marae to be invited.

 

9.5           Census Forms – People who did not fill out the census forms are going to be prosecuted.

                  The Northland region is being targeted.

 

9.6           Omapere Rangihamama Trust – have signed off with Fonterra a $600 million dairy  development.

 

9.7           Ngapuhi Festival to be held Anniversary Weekend, 25th January 2014 at Northland College.
