Matters Arising

  • Tamariki Ora is happening at Te Riingi.

  • Riki gave an update on the alternative resolution process that has led to a reduced number of cases coming to court.

Copy of a letter from Rachel Velden to the Ministry of Education expressing concern about the delays in the rebuilding programme at Northland College.

Te Rūnanga-ā-iwi o Ngāpuhi Trustee’s Report

Rūnanga Chair Raniera Tau gave an update in Keith’s absence.

  • Annual General Meeting is on 1 November at Mātaitaua Marae. There will be a bus from Kaikohe.

  • A hui regarding the review of Te Ohu Kaimoana will take place at Kohewhata Marae.

  • There is also a hui coming up at Kohewhata regarding the review of te Ture Whenua Act.

  • Ngāpuhi Iwi Social Services is developing a memorandum of understanding with Child Youth and Family Services.


Reuben Wharawhara distributed a pamphlet about Whānau Ora.

  • AGM next month.

  • Marae based studies going well: Toiora Whānau - Social Workers and Te Reo masters.

Parihaka

  • Hosting takiwā hui next month.

Other Reports

Health

  • Dr Roger Milner spoke about marae based defibrillators.

  • Suggested a pilot programme at Te Riingi.

  • Winnie to coordinate.

Rūnanga Operations

  • Reuben spoke about a Marae Communications workshop and a Taonga Protection Workshop. Details will be in the E Mara E Pānui.

General Business

  • Clinton Dearlove, Independent Candidate for Te Tai Tokerau spoke about the general election.

  • Riki Whiu introduced Graeme Wright. Graeme spoke about the focus on reducing alcohol related offending. Suggested that marse consider having an alcohol policy.

  • There was a wide ranging discussion about the role of the takiwā.
