E-mail from Jacqui Hori-Hoult from NZ Transport Agency regarding proposed State Highway status for Mangakahia Road and Te Pua Road.


Noted that the secretary has invited Jacqui to the November meeting at Te Maata.

Te Rūnanga-a-iwi o Ngāpuhi

Brief report presented by Keith (the Rūnanga has not met since the last takiwā meeting).

  • The next board meeting is on 30 October.

  • The Annual General Meeting of Te Rūnanga-a-iwi o Ngāpuhi is on Saturday 31 October at Hiruharama Hou Marae, Te Tii. The whakatau is at 9:30am.

  • The Kaumātua Kuia Ball is at the Kerikeri RSA at 6:30pm on Saturday 31 October.

Erana Kara reported on academic scholarships, and the Ngāpuhi Festival.

  • Scholarship application forms will be available online from 1 November.

  • The Ngāpuhi Festival is on 30-31 January 2016. Marae stalls cost $126 for the two days. Local marae are encouraged to have a stall. Stall application forms are available online.

  • The festival art exhibition will open at Northland College 6:30am on 27 January 2016. Te Hauāuru Takiwā will be on the pae tapu.

  • Will be asking for support for sealing the road at the next takiwā meeting.

  • Te Ropu and Keith are on the Northland College Board.

  • The commissioner still controls Curriculum, Property and Finance.

Te Hauora o Ngāpuhi

  • Te Ropu acknowledged Sonny’s support.

  • AGM 5 December.

Other Business and Notices

  • Lorraine Toki reported on Whānau Ora.

  • Discussion about health services.

  • Sid reported on a proposed monthly Flea Market at the Kaikohe RSA.

  • Shaun is leading an appeal against district licensing policy calling for a ban on liquor sales from supermarkets and restricted hours for liquor outlets.

  • Shaun wishes to address the Far North District Council regarding the the use of the Butler Centre for office accommodation.

That the secretary write a letter to the council Chief Executive supporting Shaun Reilly’s request to address the Far North District Council on the use of the Butler Centre for staff accommodation.


  • Ron thanked everyone for the support given to the recent anti-suicide march in Kaikohe.

That the takiwā koha for the November meeting at Te Maata be increased to $750.
