Matters Arising

  • Shaun continues to put pressure on the Far North District Council to stay in Kaikohe.

  • Thanks were expressed for assistance at the festival, with some suggestions for improvements

Correspondence

    • Email request from Te Rūnanga-a-iwi o Ngāpuhi regarding combined Roadshow meeting with Ngā Ngaru o Hokianga.

    • Letter supporting Otaua Marae in its application for funds for the repair and restoration of Ngātokimatawhaorua.

Education

  • Freda Mokaraka - Principal Kaikohe Intermediate School

    • Wants to incorporate the Ngāpuhi Education Plan into the school charter

  • Jim Luders - Principal Northland College

    • New Buildings are on the way.

    • Need to work with the takiwā in setting protocols for the new buildings (Hoki Tua)

    • Chromebooks for students being purchased through the Kaikohekohe Trust.

    • Manuka being planted for a Manuka Honey industry as part of the Trades Academy.

  • Discussion about the need for Tertiary Education in Kaikohe.

  • Discussion about the need to increase participation in Early Childhood Education.

  • Te Koha Wihongi and Rati Sinclair

    • Working with the Ministry of Education to establish Marae Education Hubs.

    • Their priority is 15-18 year olds who are not in school.

    • Details will be provided to the secretary to circulate to the takiwā.

    • Te Riingi prepared to be a pilot Marae Education Hub.

General Business

  • William advised that a meeting is planned to discuss the Punakitere Forest and cultural issues.

  • Waitangi Museum has opened. First visit $5. Free pass available for all Ngāpuhi.
