  • Update from Tuhoronuku.
  • Edith provided a report to the Rūnanga on the way the HauāuruTakiwā operates - to be presented at the next meeting.
  • Tabled resolution about new premises – consultation.
  • Māori representation on Far North District Council discussed - partnership.
  • Note that Tuhoronuku is not about individual and hapu claims – it is about Ngāpuhi settlement with the crown.
  • Endorsed at kaumātua kuia hui.
  • Hearings to start in May.
  • Consultation on mandate continuing.

Marae Reports

Kohewhata

  • Moving forward with kitchen and dining room.

Kotahitanga

  • Working on funding projects.
  • When Kohewhata opens Kotahitanga will close for renovations.
  • April 16-17 – Jumble sale to raise funds.

Māhuhu-ki-te-rangi

  • Two Week Rāranga wānanga in January – National Weavers of NZ.
    • Impressed by the quality of the old whāriki.
    • National Weavers of NZ will come to any marae.
    • More happening in Kaikohe.
  • Looking at other wānanga for young people.
  • Tautoro’s Finest Loser is starting 6 April for 16 weeks.
  • Te Kotahitanga Trust may be able to help (Edith).
  • Te Hauāuru Mahi-ā-iwi may be able to help (Gwen).
  • Blossom offered distribution of notices to RD1.

Ngai Tawake

  • Me mihi ki ngā kaimahi ka tika.
  • He aha te mea nui – he moni.
  • Wānanga o Raukawa – marae based studies continuing - now in its ninth year.

Okorihi

  • At the planning stage.

  • Restructuring trustees.

Other Reports

Hauāuru Mahi-ā-iwi Social Services (Pae)

  • Looking for volunteer representatives for Awarua, and Ngawha Springs.
  • Supported by Ministry of Social Development.
  • Budget approximately $30-40 thousand.

Te Hauora o Kaikohe

  • Winnie introduced new CEO Te Ropu Poa and new trustee Kataraina Harawira.
    • AGM 27 February.
    • Moving to direct contracting with the government agencies.
    • Lifting profile – supporting local events.
    • New clinical nurse practitioner – Maria Barber.

Te Puna Roimata o Kaikohe

  • Last met December 2008.

General Business

  • Northland College.
    • Thursday 1 April 2pm – welcome new Deputy Principal John Waititi.
    • 9 April – hosting “It’s In the Bag” – need questions – time to be confirmed.
    • 30-31 March – Tai Tokerau Festival at Kaitaia.
    • Initiating restorative practice – concerns about safety.
    • Gwen – Mahi-ā-iwi are supporting.
  • Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o Kaikohe.
    • Sonny reported on concerns.
    • He intends to get involved.
  • Lena’s mokopuna - Nikita Tau - Tikipunga High – Going to Paris with Ki-o-rahi
  • St Johns
    • Winnie has met with Susan Dunn
    • They provide an everyday First Aid Course – 4 hours – free - not certificated
    • Need 20 people - 27 March 9am to 1pm at Māhuhu-ki-te-rangi
