Te Rūnanga-ā-iwi o Ngāpuhi Trustees Report

Oral report presented by Sonny:

  • Budget meeting Saturday 28 May.
  • Agreement has been signed with Te Whare Wānanga o Awanui-ā-rangi - Subject to due diligence. Working with Northland Polytechnic.
  • Considering brokering an offer to move in former state houses from Auckland - $45,000- $50,000.
  • Redevelopment of the Caltex site will begin in the next few weeks.
  • Marae justice being considered.  Consider inviting Judge Rota.
  • New local Police Sergeant - Arthur McLean.

Fishing

  • The Hokianga Accord is continuing to advocate for customary and recreational fishing rights.


Moved that the takiwā does not support the imposition of licensing for recreational and customary fishing.

  • Fundraising continuing.
  • Water supply is an ongoing concern.
  • Sonny advised that the Rūnanga can assist with marae water supply issues.

Māhuhu-ki-te-rangi

  • Master Marae competition entry 9:45am Wednesday 25 May.
  • Wānanga Reo continuing (Awanui-ā-rangi).
  • The marae was able to obtain a $100,000 grant for its water supply.

Ngai Tawake

  • Poupou karanga continuing.
  • Strong support from Sid for Poupou karanga.
  • Ten years celebration for Ngai Tawake Marae based studies at the end of this year.

Parihaka

  • Thanks to Rūnanga for assistance with design of ablution block.
  • Awaiting approval for water supply.

Hauāuru Mahi-ā-iwi Social Services

  • Continuing to work with Te Pū o Te Wheke.
  • Continuing to support whānau in need.
  • Working with He Korowai Aroha for whānau social work training.

  • Marae applying to the Hapū Development Fund Need to furnish progress reports to get further installments. One application per financial year.
  • Mayoral Challenge – cycle the new cycle way from Okaihau to Kaikohe – Sunday 29 May – Registration from 9:00am – ride starts at 10:00am.
  • Trustpower Community Volunteer Awards – application packs available from the Far North District Council.
  • Unclaimed photos at Kodak Kaikohe.
