Ngāpuhi Education Strategy

·         Mariao Hohaia reported on the Ngāpuhi Education Strategy.

·         Go to the Ngāpuhi Education Strategy web page and follow the links to the background paper and the on-line survey to find out more.

·         The Kaikohe consultation meeting will be held in conjunction with our next takiwā meeting.

Te Rūnanga-ā-iwi o Ngāpuhi Operations

·         Written report presented by Liz Marsden.

·         Information about the Ngāpuhi Scholarship Fund is available from the Rūnanga website

Whānau Ora: Whānau Integration, Innovation and Engagement Fund (WIIE)

·         Mariao introduced this Te Puni Kokiri initiative.

Digital Photography and Paper Conservation

·         Lucy Taurua is organising workshops facilitated by Te Papa staff to help people preserve old photographs etc.

Marae Reports

Kohewhata

·         Ted Wihongi reported that all infrastructure is now working and they are seeking funds for the opening.

 

Māhuhu-ki-te-rangi

·         Winnie Leach thanked Te Hauora o Kaikohe for running the very successful Master Marae event.

·         Thanks also for support from the Hapū Development Fund. Looking forward to seeing the revised criteria for the Hapū Development Fund.

·         Tuhoronuku is meeting at Māhuhu-ki-te-rangi in 1 September.

·         National Rongoa Hui at Waipuna Marae in November.

Parihaka

·         Matiu Kapa Rakete reported. See written report.

Hauāuru Mahi-ā-iwi

·         Gwen reported that Hauāuru Mahi-ā-iwi is going in to recess. See written report.

Te Pū o te Wheke

·         Gwen reported on Te Pū o te Wheke (Police Liaison). The new sergeant, Arther McLean, will be attending a future takiwā meeting.

 

General Business

·         Agreed that Hauora Whānui be removed from the two monthly takiwā agenda.

·         Hirini Tau spoke about the new Cycle Trail. Seeking support to erect poupou with each adjoining hapū to erect a Pou Whenua – Ngāti Tautahi, Ngai Tawake, Ngāti Māhia. General support from those present. William Reihana and Winnie Leach will consult their respective hapū.

·         Gary Gabbbitas and Ted Wihongi from the Far North District Council led a presentation on Cooperatives as a business structure with local possibilities.

 

Future meetings

·         Agreed that Marae are invited to host the takiwā meetings on a set month of the year every year so that a tradition can be developed that is known by all.
