Matters Arising

·      The secretary has still to send the letter to the Kaikohe Hotel regarding the Pokie Capital sign.

·      Ron Dixon is continuing enquiries about someone to report to the takiwā about the tangihanga funding scheme.

Te Rūnanga-ā-iwi o Ngāpuhi

  • Edith reported on a very successful AGM.
  • She acknowledged the support of the Hauāuru Takiwā and the issues raised and discussed at takiwā meetings, and the support for Sonny as Rūnanga chair.
  • Ngāpuhi Festival - Auckland Anniversary weekend.
    • Arts and Crafts exhibition starts on the previous Wednesday.
    • Marae encouraged to enquire at the Rūnanga office about stalls. Need to register soon.
    • Note that in previous years there has been a shortage of kai on the second day.
    • The festival is being managed by Carlene Everitt of Manaaki Solutions.

  • Marae meeting next Saturday. To discuss conservation of taonga: whāriki and kākahu kiwi to be taken to conservation workshop at Otaua.

·      Celebrating 10 years with Te Wānanga o Raukawa on 17 December.

That the takiwā donate $2,000 to Hospice Mid Northland.

Broadway Health

·      Oral report from Roger Milner.

·      On 5 December he will have been in Kaikohe for half of is life.

·      Broadway Health is opening a branch in Waipapa in early December.

General Business

·      Tautoro school gala this Friday 4:30pm.

·      Waingarahu exhibition.

·      Te Papa Conservation workshop - see calendar. 

·      Senor Sergeant Arthur McLean introduced himself – keen to keep in touch. Police to be included in two monthly agenda.

·      Mike Fitzgerald – Kaikohe Business Association.

    • Pleased to note improved police presence in the town.  
    • Toi Maihi weaving in Mike's store Mondays and Wednesdays. Looking at running night classes. 
    • Seeking to promote Te Reo.

·      Discussed availability of Northland College swimming pool. Northland College has offered the pool and Gymnasium for community use. Still waiting for Far North District Council to come up with a reasonable proposal that does not expect the college to subsidise community use.

·      Poupou trail. Hirini is seeking kōrero to go on the poupou. Delegates asked to take the request back to their marae and contact Hirini by the end of February.

·      Kaikohe Literacy Day – 29 March.

·      Lauren (Hospice Mid Northland) sought assistance with Te reo Māori for their publication.
