Matters Arising

·      Mike reported that Neal Summers has advised that he was taking the Pokie Capital sign down.

      ·      Ron Dixon is continuing enquiries about someone to report to the takiwā about the tangihanga funding scheme.

That the secretary writes to Neal Summers again, and sends a copy of the letter to the Kaikohe Business Association.

Financial Report

That the Monthly Financial Statement is approved – Balance - $13,467.27.

 

Te Rūnanga-ā-iwi o Ngāpuhi

Report presented by Raniera – discussion.

Marae Reports

Pukerātā

·      Very successful Christmas lunch. Considering a midwinter lunch.

·      Festival stall – Fundraising for waka trailer - almost finished.

·      Kaihoe wānanga at Waikare in May.

·      Hosting next takiwā meeting.

Te Iringa

·      Marae has been very busy.

·      Only problem is water for handwashing.

Kohewhata.

·      Opening Easter Saturday -  7 April.

·      Acknowledging Raniera for his support for completion etc.

·      Looking for support – food – etc for the opening. 

·      The Kaupapa of the marae was set by kaumātua who have passed on: Justice, Whānau and hapū development.

·      AGM in May.

Other Reports

Education

·      Northland College Report presented by John Tapene.

o   College Gala Day on Saturday 17 March. 

·      Darlia Walker reported on her role with the Ministry of Education (See pamphlet).

o   Working with parents, families and whānau.

o   Able to give presentations to whānau about NCEA.

o   Working on Literacy in the Home project.

o   Early childhood education possibilities

Maori Wardens

·      Discussion about difficulties between Kaikohe and Districts Māori Wardens and the Tai Tokerau District Māori Wardens.

That Raniera facilitates a meeting between these groups to bring them together and sort out the issues.

Te Hauora o Kaikohe

Written report received.

Youth

·      Ted acknowledged Mike Fitzgerald’s effort to pick up the issue of youth in Kaikohe.

·      No worse than any other part of New Zealand.

·      Need to work together. Looking for volunteers for night patrols. 

·      Any initiative needs to be a Maori initiative. 

·      Planning a talent quest type activity. Sarah Pakai

·      Talking to Cheryl Waaka about increasing the number of rugby teams.

General

·      Toi Maihi taking weaving in Tuesdays in Mike Fitzgerald’s shop. 

·      Open to any suggestions and how we can work together. 

·      Waa Whareaitu and Carolyn Penney organizing a Cup Cake Bake Off. 

·      Sid involved with poupou on the cycleway. Working with Adrienne. Planning to have poupou around the town. There are six young people willing to learn.

That the takiwā contribute up to $2,000 towards our takiwā poupou

 

·      Seeking nominations for the Tai Tokerau sports awards

·      Art exhibition at Otaua. Identified 14 artists. Looking for a building for art display.

·      Waiata at Mike’s shop Fridays 6:00pm in preparation for Kohewhata opening.

·      Adrienne reported on progress with cycle trail. Te Puni Kokiri are facilitating a business opportunities hui.
