Minutes of the Previous Meeting

·      Noted that Sonny and Edith have not yet been able to work with the factions to unite the wardens in the wider Kaikohe.

Financial Report

That the Monthly Financial Statement and the Annual Financial Summary is approved – Balance (30 June) - $9,489.94

Te Rūnanga-ā-iwi o Ngāpuhi

Trustee’s Report

·      Oral report from Edith.

·      The Rūnanga Board meets every six weeks and has not met since the last Takiwā meeting.

·      Edith advised the takiwā of her resignation as proxy trustee (See letter).

·      Edith thanked all who had assisted and supported her in this role, and was in turn thanked for her work as proxy trustee.

·      Due to a lack of certainty about the process the election will be completed at the next takiwā meeting. Secretary to seek clarity about the process from the Rūnanga.

Ngāpuhi Iwi Social services

·      Oral Report from Liz Marsden.

·      New premises in Marino Place owned by the Ngāpuhi Asset Holding Company. This has provided much improved working conditions and an enhanced public profile for the 30 full time and 10-15 part time staff.

·      The Social Workers in Schools being extended and now works in 30 schools. Currently advertising for 4 new Social Workers.

·      There are 450 Ngāpuhi children in the care of Child Youth and Family.

·      Ngāpuhi Iwi Social Services has a contract to support youth at risk of offending. Tautoro marae has expressed an interest in being involved with this.

·      The Incredible Years is a programme for parents of children between three and eight years old.

Marae Reports

Kohewhata

·      See Written Report.

·      Ted reported that the marae has been very busy since its opening and this has brought the whānau together.

·      At the Strategic Planning Meeting last weekend the following vision statement was agreed to: He Pūpūtahitanga mai mō ake tonu atu.

Māhuhu-ki-te-rangi

·      Joe reported that the marae continues to be active with regular events such as Zumba on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:00pm.

Ngai Tawake

·      Lena reported on activities at the marae included Te Pito o Ngai Tawake and the continued involvement with te Wānanga o Raukawa.

Other Reports

Matariki Court

·      Fred Hohua explained the Matariki Court whereby they are able to support offenders and victims so that the outcome of the court process meets the needs of all involved

Broadway Health

·      After taking the concerns of the Takiwā to Broadway Health Sid now finds himself as their Māori consultant.

·      Still a need for dialogue with Broadway Health about our concerns.

That the secretary issues a specific invitation to the Broadway Health Management to attend a takiwā meeting.

Election of Proxy Trustee

·      Arthur thanked the takiwā for their nomination (and has since advised the secretary by email that he wishes to decline).

·      Katarina declined to accept the nomination.

·      Keith – Seeking to be more involved with the Rūnanga. Background in working with youth.

Maihi Memorial Park – Māori Tourism

·      Willie Maihi explained their vision to build a Pā at the Maihi Memorial Park as a multicultural tourism facility for Kaikohe.

·      Everyone is invited to a meeting at 1:00pm 29 July at the RSA to find out more about this proposal and be a part of the discussion.

·      Mike Shaw spoke about the possibility of a Māori Tourism organization for Kaikohe (see letter).
