Correspondence

 

1.     Notice of Annual General Meeting of Hauauru Takiwa to be held at Kohewhata Marae 18 July 2013.  Hirini will be leaving the area; will not be available for election.

 

Financial Report

Te Runanga-a-Iwi-o- Ngapuhi Trustees Report - Sonny Tau

 

1.     Mandate for direct negotiation starts in June

2.     Ngati Hine went to the Maori Appellant Court on 8 April to have the decision by Judge Ambler of no jurisdiction by the Mäori Land Court overturned but this was dismissed.

3.     Everyone to consider the Electoral Commission 2013 Maori Electoral Option.  Thanks expressed from the Census administrators for all those who filled out the census papers.  There was a 30% increase.

4.     A meeting was held with the Auckland City Maori Statutory Board.

5.     A meeting was held with Corrections to introduce the new Regional Maori representative and to discuss contracts for services currently held by Ngati Rangi.

6.     Discussion has been held concerning the Unitary Authority.

7.     Proposed new legislation on Maori Fisheries Settlement Assets has moved to Select Committee stage.

8.     A project has been set up with the pilot being run in Whangarei and the next area to roll out may be Kaikohe for Vulnerable Children.

9.     NISS has the contract for truancy.

                  Pukerata               Church has been renovated and re-opened.

Other Reports

 

1.     Local Government – Resource Management Act – Laram Ballantyne

Handouts outlining the Act were given.

 

2.     Education – Johnny Waititi

a.     New principals have been appointed to West School, Intermediate and Northland College.

b.      A powhiri will be held Wednesday 8th at 9.00 am for Jim Luden for Northland College.  He will be introduced to the Takiwa at the next meeting.

c.     The Commissioner will remain in place for 2 years.

d.     There will be a new campus within 18 months.

e.     The administration block will be completed in two weeks.

f.      A new board will be appointed by end of the year. 

g.     100 Year 9 students were enrolled this year, the biggest increase for a few years.

 

3.     Te Hau Ora of Kaikohe – Kataraina Harawira, Shaun Reilly.

a.     A new imitative has been adopted to improve the health of Kaikohe.

b.     Services available for; Family Start, Heha, a nurse has been appointed, Rheumatic Fever, Rongoa, Skip.

c.     4 new staff will be powhiri in next week.

 

4.     Business Association – Steve Sangster

a.     A submission has been presented to FNDC for the District Plan.  Support is sought from the Takiwa.

 

RESOLUTION – Shaun Reilly/ Kohewhata Marae

That the submission presented to the Far North District Council by the Kaikohe Business Association be endorsed by the Ngapuhi ki Te Hauauru Takiwa.

 

b.     The Business Association want to work with Tangata Whenua.  Have plans for improvements to buildings.  Have a membership of 50 businesses.

c.     Meeting held 2nd Tuesday of the month 6.00 – 7.00 pm.  Steve Sangster Chairman.

 

General Business

 

1.     David Williams will be running for councillor for Kaikohe/Hokianga Ward in the forthcoming Local Body Elections.  Will be attending meetings to listen to the needs of the people.

2.     Winnie Leach – Numbers interested in Trustee Training in Governance need to be submitted to Mario Hohaia at Te Runanga.
