Minutes of Previous Meeting

Matters Arising from the Minutes

1.     The Roadshow finished too late.

2.     College Farm will be back in function again.

3.     ERO; report from the Intermediate school. Joey Rogers, Interim in charge is now making things move. Hui are now in place to ensure that both parents, child and teacher are clear with what the kaupapa of the school is about. Creating a safe learning environment. Not yet in the level where a Commissioner is needed.

 

Correspondence:

1.     Kohewhata 29F-Meeting for owners of Kohewhata 29F block, Saturday March 30th. To lease the Block to the Kaikohe Christian School. Pōwhiri @ 10am.

2.     Lowes & Partners, Optometrists- Closing end March. Amalgamating with Kerikeri.

3.     Kohanga card to access discount from Noel Leeming. These cards are available from Kohanga where your child or mokopuna is enrolled.

 

Financial Report:

Balance to date: $10.860.00

 

Te Rūnanga-a-Iwi-o-Ngāpuhi Trustees Report - Keith Wihongi

1.     Marae Insurance- currently working on a package.

2.     Facilities at Ngāpuhi Asset Holding company. Recommended to return this back to the Rūnanga.

3.     Unitary Authority- Rūnanga in favour of this move.

4.     Maori enrol onto Maori roll.

5.     Asset holding company. Experiencing some difficulties. Hampering progress. Rūnanga is working with the Kowhai Court contemplating in moving Paper Plus to the smaller building. Therefore it will allow Ngāpuhi Asset Holding company to lease the larger building.

6.     Tuhoronuku: mandate settlement in process. Appointment for election of hapu representative in progress.

 

Marae Reports

Māhuhu-ki-te-Rangi

·      Smokefree project for 3month. 40 have enrolled onto auahi kore.

·      Require a letter of support for TransPower to support Te Ringi marae to have power connected. Community initiative. Easter unveiling at Taheke marae.

Ngai Tāwake:

·      Marae Based Studies still progressing. Programs delivered: Mātauranga Māori (Diploma, Yr. 1, Degree Yr. 2 & 3) Hapu Development (Diploma, Yr. 1, Degree Yr. 2 &) Toiora Whānau (Social Services Yr.1) Tāhuhu Mātauranga Māori (Masters Yr.2-Thesis).

·      Ongoing fundraising.

·      Monthly meetings and Bi- monthly Trustees meetings.

·      November gathering 7th -11th @ Lyell Dear Farm. Mt Samson.

Parihaka:

·      Preparing work on the ablution block.

·      Tui resigning as secretary. Meantime she is training the incoming secretary.

Ngāpuhi Iwi Social Services:

·      New contract associated with schools.

·      Truancy very high. 150 school roll over mahi, recruiting staff to bring back children to the classrooms.

·      Struggling families that at a threshold of risk factor.

·      Minimise trauma among children who offend.

·      Safe placements for tamariki.

Te Rūnanga-a-Iwi-o Ngāpuhi Operations:

·      Written Report.

Kaikohe Business Association – Steve Sangster (Chairperson)

·      A need of more tourists to stop in Kaikohe.

·      Businesses need to tidy up their shops.

·      Need to have an inviting impression in the town of Kaikohe

·      Mention of employment in Kaikohe. An industry, canning factory, market gardens.

General Business:

Gwen Tahana (Kaikohe, Area Supervisor for 2013 Census)

·      Thanks to the Kaikohe Region for the 95.5 in coverage with the filling of the Census.

·      This year has escalated in the completion and returns to date of the forms. There is more yet to come in. Final report will be at a later date.

·      Also wish to thank all for their support in completing their Census forms

·      Why completing the Census is so important to you and I.

 

The proxy delegate to take back to the Board;

·      Concerns re-applicants who apply for vacancies not notified of receipt of their application or whether they have been shortlist.

·      Applicant following interview was told that the panel would notify that afternoon or next day. The applicant was not notified until 5weeks later.
