Matters Arising

·      Sid is not moving away after all.

·      Disappointing turnout at the whakatau for the new principal at Northland College.

·      No responses from Hauāuru marae to the invitation to Trustee Training.

1.     Email from Friday Rountree re difficulty changing bank account signatories.

2.     Takiwā election – note that nominations close 4 June.

Te Rūnanga-ā-iwi o Ngāpuhi

Trustee’s Report

Oral report from Keith Wihongi

·      The board met with Ngāpuhi Asset Holding Company and discussed ways to improve performance. Planning for better communication.

·      Progress with refining the mandate for Tuhoronuku and appointing hapū representatives.

·      There have been discussions about more Rūnanga involvement in local education issues.

Scholarships

·      Don reported on the Scholarship selection process. He acknowledged that the selection committee had turned down applications with students with high grades due to the fact that a limited number of scholarships could be awarded.

Marae Reports

Kohewhata

·      Ted reported on the serties of wānanga that are taking place with the support of the Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi.

·      The marae has had 300 bookings since the opening last year, including hosting the local Lions and Rotarians.

·      There is a Hauora Day at the marae tomorrow 22 May.

Māhuhu-ki-te-rangi

·      Winnie reported that the marae is concerned about the cost of insurance.

·      Keith and Reuben advised that the Rūnanga is looking at this issue, and may be able to play a brokering role for affordable marae insurance.

·      Trustees are interested in trustee training.

·      The marae has a close liaison with Tautoro School.

Kōtuku

·      Sid reported that plans are coming along slowly.

Rūnanga Operations

·      New appointee Kara George reported on his roles with the Rūnanga.

o   Developing an Education strategy in to an implementation plan.

o   Housing development – papa kainga. Workshops are planned.

o   Hapū Development.

Far North District Council

·      Phillip Grimshaw reported on the council’s growth strategy.

·      Discussion about rating and the possibility of a Māori Rating Authority.

Matariki Court

·      Fred Hohua presented a brief report and answered questions.

Changing Bank Account Signatories

·      The letter from Friday was discussed. No-one had had a similar problem.
