6.          TE RUNANGA-A-IWI O NGAPUHI TRUSTEE’S REPORT

·       AGM – Waikare Marae is not available, alternative venue to be advised.

·       Full report briefly explained report available on line.

·       Maori Roll option – important for Maori to enrol on the Maori roll for funding purposes.

·       Sealords profits are down for the year.

·       Need to support FNDC for Unitary Authority in the North.

·       Tuhoronuku – decision expected by end of August from the Crown.

·       Budget – under budget for the year.

·       1.3 million dollars reimbursed for Tuhoronuku from the Crown, up to 5 million for reimbursements due back.

·       Ngapuhi will never sign away sovereignty, never full and final, mokopuna to carry on.

 

7.          MARAE REPORTS

·       Te Iringa very busy until the end of the year, not taking any more bookings.

 

8.          OTHER REPORTS

Education    Johnny Waititi introduced the new principal of Northland College, Mr Jim Luder.  Gave a brief profile.

Points raised –

·       Talking with Lincoln University to provide further opportunities for the farm, creating pathways for study.

·       Financial situation is improving.

·       1 million dollars worth of renovations have been completed.

·       Gym and library to be renovated.

·       New school buildings for a new campus should be completed by June next year.

·       Uniforms are picking up and the dress of the staff also.

·       A lot of work needed with staff and pupils.

·       A meeting has been booked with the local agencies for support for the pupils.

·       2 weeks time a meeting will be held with the school whanau, the school will be closed for the day for teaching.

·       Vision of staff, Kaumatua, Kuia, and marae is needed for the charter.  Suggested the Takiwa put time aside at the next meeting to discuss in depth.  Hold the AGM of the Takiwa and then go to the in depth discussion.

·       40% truancy reported daily.

·       Drugs in school – needs to be stamped out.

·       Looking at new ways of learning.

·       School needs to be made a safe place.

·       Johnny Waititi has stepped out of deputy principal role to devote time to Te Awatea.  The future is looking bright but a lot of work to be done.

·       Looking at replacing the logo – needs to reflect Ngapuhi.

·       Looking at starting over again.

·       Principal wants to be out and about with the students.

·       Want Kaumatua/Kuia involvement.

·       Want Building and Farming Academies to be reinstated.

·       Want involvement from Runanga, Community and Whanau.

·       Future lies in the hands of the community.

·       Want more academic achievement.

·       Need to set up Hui.

 

Te Hau Ora O Kaikohe

·       Contracts and budget all on target.  In good hands.

 

9.          GENERAL BUSINESS

·       Hui for Northland College to be held after the Annual General Meeting of the Takiwa at Kohewhata Marae, 16th July 2013.

·       2015 National Hui for Weavers to be held at Roma Marae, Ahipara.

·       The Runanga trip to Auckland was excellent.

·       2016 Nga Manu Korero to be held at Northland College.

·       Road show for Te Wananga O Raukawa to be held at the Memorial Hall.

·       Suggestion came from Mitai Matene that the Hui held for Kaumatua/Kuia at West Auckland invite the younger generation of up and coming leaders as they are the future of Ngapuhi.
